URBAN PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENT MANDATE
 
This department, managed by Julie Lafontaine, has the responsibility of studying
applications
for permits that conform to urban planning regulations and seeing to
the issuance of the following
permits and certificates:

- Construction, extension, renovation, demolition, shed, garage, swimming pool,
septic system,
well, tree-felling, work within the shoreline protection zone, dock,
pesticides, burning and land subdivisions.
 
The department regularly inspects the territory, ensuring that the permits have
been correctly
executed or investigate any infringements to by-laws and also
analyses all development projects,
in collaboration with the Urban Planning
Advisory Committee.
 
Replies to information requests from residents, potential buyers, land surveyors,
notaries and other
professionals who are affected to urban planning and environment.
 
The department has an environmental division which has the responsibility of
implementing
certain provincial regulations, such as for septic systems and wells. 
It also oversees protection of shoreline,
littoral and wetlands, and also the good
management of private forests.

The environmental division is also in charge of different programs and projects,
such as the distribution of
compost  bins, trees and shrubs, the management of
erosion, beavers dams, and in collaboration with lakes associations, of lakes monitoring.
